This week was filled with impending deadlines, seemingly endless editing, lots of coffee and the most meaningful story process I’ve ever been a part of.

Starting from the beginning, I was nervous but excited to start this journey. I had done audio work before, but the opportunity to work so closely with a team to produce a story was new to me. I was blown away by the support, expertise and kindness everyone had to offer.

Tiffany, my mentor, was especially helpful to me. She made sure I told the best story I could and encouraged me to ask questions (and take breaks). I have learned a lot from her that I will keep with me throughout my whole journalistic career.

Overall, journalism is a scary career path to go into. We have a lot of responsibility and we need to be good at our jobs now more than ever. It can feel overwhelming and sometimes I question my skill set. But after this week, I am more sure than ever that I am in the right industry. I have loved being creative with the NPR Next Generation Radio team and I feel eternally grateful that they chose me for this project.

Throughout the week, the team kept reminding us that we are now part of the Next Generation family. I am so honored to be a part of this family and I am excited to keep in contact with everyone for years to come. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things we accomplish.
